Technical Apparel Repair Specialist and Sample Sewer

KÜHL is growing and we have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Apparel Repair Specialist and Sample Sewer to join our team.

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Technical Apparel Repair Specialist with expertise in operating sewing machines to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in repairing technical apparel, including outdoor gear, sportswear, and other specialized clothing items. In addition to repair skills, this role involves operating sewing machines to perform precise and durable repairs on a variety of garments. The candidate will also assist with sample sewing and play a crucial role in quality-checking factory samples.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Repair Technical Apparel:

  • Assess and identify issues with technical apparel, including zippers, seams, fabrics, and hardware
  • Operate sewing machines to perform precise and durable repairs while maintaining the integrity of the original design and functionality
  • Apply buttons, zippers, Velcro, hemming, pockets, etc. as the work order dictates
  • Perform quality checks on finished products to ensure correct assembly and measurements, reporting all defects and deviations
  • Ensure that products are repaired to the correct specifications
  • Hand sew buttons and some seams as needed

Quality Control:

  • Conduct thorough quality checks on repaired items to ensure they meet company standards and customer expectations
  • Use measuring instruments, small hand tools, and other required equipment appropriately
  • Assist in checking factory samples for quality, ensuring they adhere to design specifications and quality standards

Sewing Machine Operation:

  • Set up and operate sewing machines to perform various repair tasks efficiently
  • Thread and operate single-stitch and double-stitch operations on automated and manual sewing machines
  • Maintain and troubleshoot sewing machines as needed

Sample Sewing:

  • Collaborate with the design teams to assist with sample sewing for new product development.
  • Ensure that sample garments meet design specifications and quality standards.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the production team to understand repair and sample sewing requirements.
  • Provide input on potential design or manufacturing improvements based on repair and sample insights.

Record Keeping:

  • Maintain detailed records of repairs and sample sewing, including materials used, time spent, and any challenges encountered.
  • Maintain records in the ERP system or other required computer programs.
  • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive repair and sample database.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical Expertise - Proven experience in repairing technical apparel, with a focus on outdoor gear, sportswear, or similar items. Proficient in operating sewing machines and understanding various fabrics, materials, and construction methods used in technical garments.
  • Attention to Detail - Exceptional attention to detail and precision in repairing garments to maintain functionality and aesthetics.
  • Problem-Solving Skills - Ability to diagnose issues and implement effective solutions, considering both short-term fixes and long-term improvements.
  • Communication Skills - Strong communication skills for internal collaboration with production teams.
  • Adaptability - Willingness to adapt to evolving repair techniques, technologies, and garment designs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years of experience preferred
  • Additional consideration is given to applicants with sample garment and repair experience
